what are innersoles?

An orthotic innersole, is a support worn is one's shoes to support, align, prevent, or correct the function of one's feet. There are various kinds of orthotics, form rigid thick types to thin gel-like types. Orthotics can be worn purely for comfort, but they can also have a valuable therapeutic effect.

Why would I need an orthotic innersole?

Feet are a complex part of the body.

Each foot has 26 bones. 33 joints, more than 120 muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. These all work together to support the weight of a person’s body. Feet act as shock absorbers, they keep a person balanced and help them walk. On average, people spend about four hours standing on their feet each day and take about 5,000 steps.

Foot pain can lead to trouble getting around, which can cause weight gain and weakness. Up to 87 percent of people have painful feet at some time in their lives for many different reasons. One-third of older adults have foot pain, stiffness, or aching feet. Many of these problems come from poorly fitting shoes, collapsing arches, or old injuries.

If you have any sort of foot issue, it’s likely that you’re changing the way you walk to avoid hurting it more. You may not even be aware that this is happening. This overcompensation and misaligned walking patterns can cause back pain, because it causes your spine to become misaligned as well. Your foot is not only important to your balance, but your whole back can be affected too.

Your feet can cause imbalance and posture problems as well. When your feet aren’t properly aligned, it can throw your overall balance off. This makes you more prone to accidental slips and falls, which could result in further injury.

When choosing footwear, the importance of having proper support to promote functional stability for the many joints and arches of the feet cannot be undervalued.

Foot and ankle biomechanics influence motion and function throughout our skeletal structure. Improper gait, foot strike or subtle differences in functionality from one foot to the other can all translate stresses up through the knees and into the hips, pelvis and spine. Anyone who has ever broken a toe, been in a leg cast or sprained an ankle will inherently relate to this concept of how a change in gait can cause pain in other areas. However, an injury does not have to be the primary cause of compensatory pain. Pain can also manifest simply from the way you are walking every day.

If your house's foundation is compromised, you can expect problems in the rest of the house too.
